Mexican Maragogype

I have a small amount of this varietal for purchase. This comes from my personal stash and there is only a little left. Due to the leaf rust problems this season the Nicaraguan is unfortunately unavailable. This bean is still great but is a little less ‘apricot’ driven than the Panama. instead add a touch more dry earthiness with a savoury Brazil nut middle. Great blended with the Colombian in 50/50 ratio.

Brazil

Brazil is the number 1 exporter of coffee in the world and is used as a base bean in most blends. You will be familiar with the taste even if you don’t know it. This Rainforest Alliance coffee from one of the most famous growers in Brazil and oozes creamy caramel with some earthy depth. The top is accentuated with subtle honey aromatics and toffee finishing with a big base coffee flavour. Great with milk and excellent as a single origin espresso.

Colombia

A touch lighter than the Brasil, Colombian beans are slightly nuttier and sweeter. When roasted lightly they can exhibit some marmalade flavours. This bean is rich in aroma and has a mild but balanced finesse to the taste. Combine toasted caramel, malt, lightly toasted almonds with a clean finish.

Ethiopia

Yirgacheffe is one of the most famous regions and this is a great example. Punchy, with great floral citrus. Clean with a slightly sweet finish. A must try for both milk and black coffee drinkers. Recent harvests have been very favourable in Yirgacheffe and this batch is no exception. Incresingly popular these days. This is a washed example so you won’t get the fruit driven aromatics present in the Guji.

Kenya

Very highly sought after for blending as as a single origin. This is a high quality example of the top notes African beans can bring to a coffee. Look for tropical fruit, dominant citrus acidity and currants with a sweet, clean lingering finish. Great black as an afternoon pick-me-up.

Nicaragua

This elephant bean from maragogype is similar to a Guatemalan. Sweet honey on top with great toasted nut flavours in the middle with some malted caramel and dried apricot fudge coming through. A large sized bean for a massive coffee nut!

Panama

Right near the border of Costa Rica, this is from one of two of the best regions in Panama. Necatines and tangy apricots with some stone fruit hit you at the start before a brown sugar, hazelnut and a slightly creamy finish takes over. Lingering finish.
